The 4 Keys to Unleashing Your Self-Confidence: Empowering Your Entrepreneurial Journey

by | Jul 25, 2023 | Ancestral Guidance, Imposter Syndrome

As Black women entrepreneurs, we often find ourselves struggling to match the same level of confidence we have in our degrees, certifications, and external recognition with our own self-assurance. Surrounded by environments that don’t pour into us or remind us of our magnificence is discouraging. Fortunately, we have access to tools to help us. Learning to validate yourself from within is a transformative practice that can silence the doubts that hold you back from pursuing your dreams. In this post, we’ll uncover the keys to unleashing your self-confidence to empower your entrepreneurial journey.

Key # 1 – Embrace Your Inner Validation:
While external accolades are significant, true empowerment is rooted in validating ourselves from within. Embracing your unique strengths and acknowledging the value of your lived experiences is the secret to nurturing self-confidence and overcoming imposter syndrome. When you make a mistake, practice self-compassion and remind yourself that you’re human. No one else in the world has the combination of education, experience, and wisdom that you do. By tapping into your inner validation, you’ll develop a profound sense of self-assurance that will motivate you and give you the confidence you’ve been searching for.

Key #2 – Harnessing Ancestral Strength:
As Melanated Beings, our ancestry is a powerful source of inspiration and strength. As Black women, we’re so used to being “the only one” and adopt this identity. But the reality is, we are never alone. Our grandparents, aunts, uncles, those who are in the spiritual realm are always rooting for us and supporting us. We come from a lineage of resilient Ancestors who paved the way for our success. Recognizing and honoring their journey, experiences, and their sacrifices instills a deeper sense of purpose and determination within us. Be grateful to them and call on them when you need help. Remembering this gives us a grounded courage to face setbacks and move ahead knowing we are surrounded by our spiritual family. (Listen to Maya Angelou’s commencement speech at Spelman College “Take Your Ancestors With You”.)

Key # 3 – Lowering the Volume on Self-Doubt:
Self-doubt is relentless, but we can teach ourselves tools to manage its impact. When doubts start to take over, take a moment to focus on your inner validation. In a visible place in your office, keep items that remind you of who you are, everything you’ve achieved, how much you’re valued and appreciated. Use the setbacks as stepping stones towards growth. Self-doubt is a natural part of the entrepreneurial journey and will always appear whenever you and your business grow. So, practice working with and transforming it into a catalyst for progress. (See what Essence’s new Kenyan-born CEO Caroline Wanga has to say about how she manages self-doubt.)

Key #4 – Embrace Imperfect Action:
As a former perfectionist, I can tell you waiting for the “perfect” moment is what keeps you stuck from taking necessary steps to grow. There’s never a perfect moment. Surrender and give yourself permission to take small imperfect actions daily, understanding that progress. Celebrate your small and silent milestones. Acknowledge the growth that comes from learning through challenges rather than just thinking that you’re failing. You’re learning as you go. With every step you take, you’ll develop your confidence muscles, build momentum, and be able to reaffirming your belief in our abilities and yourself.

Empowerment to Soar:
Believe in yourself and your capabilities. You are precisely where you need to be to make your dreams a reality. By harnessing the strength of our ancestors, embracing our unique journeys, and validating ourselves from within, we empower ourselves to soar to unparalleled heights of success.

By now, you already understand first hand that your entrepreneur journey is also your personal growth journey. By embracing your inner validation, tapping into your ancestral strength, quieting self-doubt, and taking imperfect action, you set yourself on the path towards sovereign success!

Much Love and Encouragement,

Rose-Stella
